Sometimes Life Makes You Go Hummmm…

I was crazy busy so no post on Tuesday.

Tuesday night I thought of all possible interview questions for Wednesday morning, I had a great outfit ready to go (a girl has to have priorities), I had my portfolio, I had my bag, and I had my parking pass all set. Wednesday, I woke up at 530am, thanks to the lovely birds, I have GOT to get another set of ear plugs, tried to ignore them, moved to the spare bed and then got up, showered ready to take on the world, or at least nail the interview that would lead to the job to start the next set of my life.

Well I wish Wednesday everyone would have seen thinking similar to my new coffee mug, thanks to Ms. L…

(If everyone agreed with me, they'd all be right.)

However, no!  No the world was pissing on my plan. So long story short, the interview was not good, I don’t anticipate a call back but will keep the outfit.

Today. Today I have a headache, I’m not in such a great mood, I really want to be on a patio drinking pitchers of margaritas and nibbling on chips and guacamole (ummmm), but I’m not I’m at work just trying to make it until 330pm. I’m going to skip lunch and leave a bit early. I’m whiny and I’m ok with that, I’ll pull it together by tomorrow and life will continue as it has. I was just a silly girl who got her hopes up there might be a positive change in her life and that hope has been ripped from me by my jugular or at least it feels that way.

ahhhh chips and guac

Weekend Observations…

This weekend, I noticed myself making mental notes of what not to do in the world based on observations of my fellow humans out and about.

1.   Do not walk around a department store talking on my cell phone with the speaker phone on. The other customers in the store might find me distracting, annoying, and downright rude, depending on the topic of conversation.

2.  Do not take my 7 or 8 year old daughter to see The Back-up Plan, it’s a crappy movie even for the $1 movie and it is rated PG-13. She will likely get bored or feel uncomfortable with the content and talk during the entire movie. Other movie goers might get a bit annoyed even if the movie is crap and she’s trying to talk softly. My daughter would more likely enjoy a movie not rated PG-13 and more PG.

3.  Do use the complementary footies offered in the shoe department. I wouldn’t want any possible foot fungus that I might have spread to others because I didn’t bother.

4.  Do not start working on the rental property I own before 10am. I will keep in mind that my renters may only get to sleep in once in every great while and might not enjoy the sound of a hammer pounding on the wall at the butt crack of dawn!

Oh Monday…get me to Wednesday and may the sun shine, I find pennies heads up, and the world love me Wednesday.

Thursday Photo Round-Up...

Ok, I don't really know what that means.  Today has been busy, crazy, busy, random, and odd.  Nothing bad odd, just odd.

Right now I'm killing time waiting on a phone interview.  Next Wednesday I have an actual in person interview.  It's all very exciting to be wanted.  Well at least wanted right now, that's been my problem. I'm wanted, wanted even for a second interview then nothing.  Oh well, the phone interview this afternoon, well, it's not that I don't want it, but I don't know if I want it.  I applied out of frustration one day.  The one Wednesday, well I really want it.  Sigh!

Ok a couple of photos.  I made instant tea this morning and got it a bit strong I think.  It looked morel like a Guinness than tea.

The rain the other night must have been much more intense than I thought.  My poor neighbor has a wee garden outside my back fence.  All of his corn was lying down.

My camera has photos that I need to download.  Maybe tonight I'll see if I can pull them off and share. Until tomorrow, enjoy your Thursday kids and do a jig in hopes that my interview Wednesday goes well.

Wednesday Random Trivia…

In case you happen to need this information for Jeopardy or your next trivia boardgame.

Television comedy queen Lucille Ball appeared on a record 29 covers of TV Guide magazine.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Americans eat more than 22 pounds of tomatoes every year. More than half this amount is eaten in the form of ketchup and tomato sauce. (If only I could get past the taste of the tomato.)

In the state of Queensland, Australia, it is still constitutional law that all pubs must have a railing outside for patrons to tie up their horse. (Often I wish Jan was still around, I would love to saddle up and go for a little trot.)

Kings of the Road: Before they became famous in the entertainment industry, these people all worked as truck drivers: Stephen J. Cannell, Robert Conrad, K.D. Lang, Gregory Peck, Sidney Poitier, Desi Arnaz, and Elvis Presley. James Cameron worked as a truck driver and a school bus driver before becoming a successful film director.

You can call it Britain, Great Britain, United Kingdom, or U.K. – however, if you purchase a stamp there, you won't find any name. Great Britain was the first country in the world to issue postage stamps, and they're the only nation in the world today that doesn't use a national name on their stamps. (I never noticed…did I send any postcards from Britain to you? Was there a name?)

In Wilton, Maine, there is a cannery that imports and cans only dandelion greens.

And now you know.

A Warning to Others...

I'm only going to tell you this information as a don't do what I did situation.

Do not start watching a Lifetime movie online during your lunch.  Then do not finish the movie the next day during your lunch. I'm telling you this is a bad idea.  Your face will get red, your eyes will get puffy, your eyes will swell up, and big gushing tears will pour out.  This is a challenge to hide when you have to go to the mail room after lunch.

I'm just saying.

I Scream, You Scream…

We are all screaming for ice cream because it’s summer!

I love ice cream. It’s my go to weakness, right behind birthday cake. Darn in, now I’m thinking about birthday cake. Yellow cake, white frosting….crap!

Anywho, Velvet Ice Cream is holding a favor contest. Go to this link and win ice cream for a year. http://www.velveticecream.com/

I’ve already entered my favor suggestion. Wanta know what I sent, do ya, do ya. (Yikes, I’m channeling my old pre-schoolers). Ok, wait over, are you ready for Honey Cashew?

Honey Cashew would be a base of silky Velvet vanilla ice cream, with cashew pieces mixed in and light Ohio honey swirled about. This would be the perfect combination of sweet and salty.

It’s tasty, I created my own version in my kitchen before sending my favor.

You’ve got time, but don’t wait too long, the entries for the contest must be in by August 31.

Greeting Cards…

I love a good greeting card…especially ones I can send online. There are fewer and fewer ones that can be sent at no cost as an e-card. I send real ones out from time to time. I’ve been fairly good about keeping my New Years promise to send real snail mail once a month.

I found a few online that I don’t know that I would send, but thought they were funny. You will have to picture the card with the phrases below.

Congratulations… you made it through Freshman year without getting pregnant.

I am constantly hitting escape, but I’m still here.

I just got thrown under the bus.

My stick figure could kick your stick figures butt!

Do they ever shut up on your planet.

How about a nice hot cup of…shut the hell up.

This one has to be my favorite, too damn funny!

Warning…unattended children will be given espresso and a puppy.

It's FFFFFFFFFFFRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!

Random Wednesday (late) The Ohio State University Trivia...

Due to a horrible headache, I didn't do a post yesterday, it seems Wednesday has become trivia day, so it's just a wee bit late.

The first classes at OSU begin on September 17, 1873.  We were always late starters.

Two women enrolled on the first day, Harriet and Alice Townshend, daughters of professor Norton Townshend, the first professor of agriculture.

25 total students enrolled on the first day of classes.

The OSU marching band began in 1878.

The marching band did not start doing Script Ohio until 1936.

R.L. Stine wrote Goosebumps and many others is an alumnus of OSU.

Roy Plunkett invented teflon and is an alumnus of OSU.

OSU dorms became co-ed in 1972.  Poor 1971 grads.

The record of the football team in its first season at OSU was 1-3.  Wonder if I could have gotten tickets then--not likely. *frown*

The true American sport, baseball was the first athletic team at OSU, 1879.

Movie Bonanza

Over the next two days I’ll be in full Twilight mode. This evening, there will be a viewing of the first two movies. I’ve been notified there will be fabulous food to boot, so I’m there no questions asked. *grin*

Tomorrow, there will be a short wait in line (hopefully) and then the third installment of the saga between Bella, Jacob, and Edward. Are you team Jacob or Edward? If I had asked this question about two years ago, everyone would be looking at me like I had lost what little intelligence I had and wonder what in tarnation I was talking about. Funny how Pop Culture worms it way in and then never leaves. Before 1985 no would have said, “what are you blind, McFly”. It’s been around since before me, but before 1942, “here’s looking at you, kid”, would not have had the same meaning. And so on and so one.

Because I can...below are the trailers for all three movies.

Progress…

Last week I reported on my lack luster start to my summer reading commitment. I have good news to report. Due to my many hours on the road this weekend and a very late night wrapped in a book, I have now completed three. Count them, three of my nine summer reading books. I’m working on the fourth and fifth and need to go to the library for more materials. That’s right readers, I will not go down in shame this year, I will reach my goal. I wonder if cookbooks can count, I flip through those all the time. Mind you I don’t actually make any of the stuff, just like thinking one day I will.

In case you didn’t know…it’s Monday.

Orlando Revisited...

Something happened to my photos from the Orlando trip, they disappeared from my computer.  I can't believe I deleted them, but alas they are gone.  Out of luck while in Florida, I downloaded most of my pics onto my sister's laptop and she FINALLY sent me the photos and ones she took also.  Hers are just too funny.  By no means are they flattering at all but gave me a Friday morning laugh, so I felt like I should share.  You may not find them as funny as I do, but humor me.

The day we went to Epcot it rained off an on, so it was bit chilly.  I went off in search of some coffee.  At the time, I didn't notice, but I think it was laced with something...I mean look at me, I'm clearly stoned.

On the other hand the coffee made Aunt P gitty.  You would think Disney would have consistent drugs, everything else is done so well.

At this point, I'm mostly soaked and just gone...I don't even think therapy would help.

Ms. N seems to have many personalities.  She's way happy here, scary really.

Then she changes gears at the drop of a hat...baaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhahahahah pun intended.

The sun in Florida fried our brains...we hadn't see sun in so many months at that point.

This one is funny just because if you know my Mom, you know she does not drink, but being a Mom is always there to hold our drinks.  *smile*  Thanks Mom!

I didn't get permission to post these photos, but if you can't laugh at yourself and your family who can you laugh at?

Happy Friday!

Summer Reading Club…

A couple of weeks ago I signed up for the summer reading program at my local library. I’m not sure what I was thinking I agreed to read 9 books, that was a book a week and to this point, I’m about 1/3 of the way through only one book. CRAP! I’ve got to play catch up. I don’t think the library will take me out and shoot me if I don’t reach the 9 books, but I feel like I should try to reach my goal.

I’m listening to a book right now, it’s being read by the author and it’s pretty funny so far. I’m not big on listening to books, but I’m in the car so much it seems like a good way to get in a book or two.

I’m Down a Memoir by Mishna Wolff.

A white girl growing up with a white father who thinks he is black in a black neighborhood outside of Seattle in 1980’s/90’s.  So far, thumbs up.

If you have any good book suggestions, I’m open to ideas.

Random Wednesday Trivia…

In my attempt to assist you with your random trivia knowledge, once again Random Wednesday Trivia.

The town of Fort Atkinson, Iowa was the site of the only fort ever built by the U.S. government to protect one Indian tribe from another. Who is Paul Herold?  Well, he is the current mayor of Fort Atkinson.

The Rufous is the only species of hummingbird to nest in Alaska. They migrate 2,000 miles to Mexico each winter, and then back to Alaska in the spring.

After 11 years of living together, Danny De Vito and Rhea Perlman were married during a Taxi lunchbreak.

In the old school primer "Now We Read," the name of the cat featured with Dick, Jane, Sally, and their dog Spot, was Puff.

An ear of corn averages 800 kernels in 16 rows. A pound of corn consists of approximately 1,300 kernels. 100 bushels of corn produces approximately 7,280,000 kernels. Corn is produced on every continent of the world with the exception of Antarctica.

Really Random Finds...

I was surfing the web today.  The web has some seriously odd, weird, sometimes interesting information.

I found a couple of items that just made me smile.

For your kitchen... a Rubik's Cube salt and pepper grinder. Too funny, just the thing for retro 1980's kitchens.

For your scraps and scratches...Pac-Man band aids.  Again, very 1980's.

Happy Tuesday!

Trailers...

I love watching the trailers for upcoming movies.  When I go to the theatre I want to arrive early, in time to get the middle of the middle seat and to watch all the trailers.  Trailers can make a shitty movie look like it will rock, which is their job, but it's fun.

I've been watching a few trailers on Hulu for Eclipse.  Ok, so judge me, I don't care.  However at this point, I feel like I've seen the entire movie...oh well it will just be a recap when actually attending the movie.  Should they put so many trailers out there, I can't decide.

Opps…

I’ve been busy this week, busy here at work. I love how the assumption is that summer are slow for this field. My computer at home is having some issues, so no good for posting either. I’m hoping to get it looked at next week to find out what the problem is, I think Vinton County put a hex on it. Any IT people to have ideas on how to get the laptop to connect to a wireless connection..pass ‘em on. It says it’s connected, but then brings up only dead pages. Ah well, I can’t be wonderful at everything. *grin*

I haven’t blogged, which is just terrible. Nothing exciting to report really, so let me just vent about today just a bit, please

Today…

I forgot to take may allergy meds as I was running super late and have sneezed enough for a month.

I logged into facebook for the first time in a long time and there sat the suggestion of a “friend” an ex that really, I don’t need in my “friend” suggestion list. ARGH! I think I stick to facebook for work only these days.

I signed my annual review and discovered that I’m getting a new supervisor, yet to be announced. Really, someone couldn’t have told me that. I had to read it in my supervisor’s comments on my review. Nice, well done! There are so many rumors floating around right now, I just have to keep telling myself that as long as I get money in my account every month, at it’s worth it. As long as I don’t reach the stage of drinking a bottle of red wine and eating a bag of popcorn for dinner every night, I’m good. I did this with another job for several months, way too long, I will not allow myself to get to that point of frustration again. Hell, I would move back with my parents, want me or not, and pitch hog shit rather than get to that point again. Ah FU, at least I got something from you.

Ok, so I’m off, enough venting for the moment. It’s almost Friday, right? RIGHT?!!??!?!??!!!

My Bounty...

I went to a farmers market yesterday and pick up a couple of things.  They are all like candy.  Oh, the cheese, the cheese is just grand.

If you are near a farmers market this weekend, stop, stop and support local growers!

Good, but...

I have taken photos I really like, but would never likely print them.  They are just not photos that one would print, but I do like them so have a look.

The little picture here on the blog doesn't really do this one justice.  The light coming through the trees and the autumn colors are just grand.

I'm not sure why this moss in Washington is so interesting, but it is. Maybe it’s the many shades of green.

This one just makes me happy. It could be the bright happy colors.

It’s All Greek To Me…

Recently I saw Get Him to the Greek. I didn’t know much about it going in, but it seemed like a light fun flick to see. If you are looking for something fun, silly, a bit icky, no thinking required, good for a few laughs, this might be a good flick to catch at the $1 movie. I give it a C-. Keep an eye out for the vomit, there is a lot in this movie. Hey, I warned you it was a bit icky.

A Finished Project…

It takes me forever to finish knitting projects sometimes. This project was started two years ago. I had planned to give it to a friend from Scotland during her visit a couple of years ago. Needless to say, I never finished and she returned to Scotland without this lovely scarf.

She returned again this year from a visit in March. I busted the scarf back out and knitted until my fingers were bleeding. Ok not really, but I did bust a needle and finished the scarf for her to take back with her this year. Finally!

Happy Friday!!

Concert Bliss...

Sunday I attend the James Taylor and Carole King concert. It was brilliant! As a child my parents used to torment me with this kind of music. It was not until I was an adult, that I actually started to enjoy it. Like the music or not, you have to appreciate that they are both legends in the music world.

The stage was very simply, but nice.  There was no back, it was a circle that was on a very slow rotation so that the entire audience as one point was facing the singers.  Photo from my phone, not great, but need the cord for real photos.

Below are a few of my favorites.

Moonville Tunnel …

During my trip to Vinton County Ohio, I took a brief tour to the Moonville Tunnel. We went during the daylight, good time to stay away from the ghosts.

To give you a bit of history. The follow was taken from this link, http://www.moonvilletunnel.net/index.htm.

Moonville was once scarcely known as little more than one more tiny mining and railway boom town among a hundred others in Southeastern Ohio. But for those who lived there, it was home.

There was never more than a hundred people living in the tiny town from 1856 to the 1940s. And by the early 1950s, the only things remaining was a few abandoned houses and a lonely stretch of railway between Marietta and Cincinnati.

The Tunnel

is a little creepy from the inside,

especially with painting like this.

If you are in Vinton County and looking for a nice little hike that may lead to a ghost to two, go.  Read the history and the stories first, it will make experience more fun.

Even Losing Can be Fun…

Saturday I traveled to Cleveland for my first ever professional baseball game. I’ve been to a few AAA games, but never a pro one. Cleveland was playing Cinci, the Ohio Expo…ok, I don’t remember what exactly it was called, but it was Ohio something. The first part of my drive to Cleveland scared me a little, I kept hitting speratic downpours for about the first hour outside of C-Bus. Thankfully the skies cleared and it was a wonderful evening for a game. Pre-game old college friends gathered for a chat to catch up on life changes and reminense about the “old days”.

I expected our seats to be up so high the players would look like wee dots on the field, but lucky enough, we had really great seats. We were in the first section, right between right and center field, score!

Growing up in Southeastern Ohio, there are no professional teams of any kind. So, you either aline with Cleveland or Cinci teams. If my Dad was cheering for a team it was the Cleveland Browns, so by default, I became a Browns fan (maybe this explains my many issues). Again by default, because I was a Cleveland football fan, I became a Cleveland baseball fan. Now, I use the term fan loosely with it comes to baseball. I love baseball, love to watch it…at least in person. However, when the Indians looked like they were going to lose in a blowout during the first couple of innings, I was willing to jump ship to the Reds. Ok, not really, but the boys playing for the Indians didn’t really show up, they didn’t act like they were getting paid to do this job. Oh, it was stressful. At one point, it was 4-0 Reds, eck.

The Indians did show up in the 9th with a short rally at least bringing the final score to 6-4 (Reds), if nothing else not a blow out, but still a loss. I understand the Indians are in a buidling year and they did beat the Reds the following day, yeah for them. To add to this, Grady is on the injured list.

If you can’t win, at least have fun doing it, which the game was a ton of fun.

Photos from my phone…

The view from the "cheap" seats.  They were at a crazy discount, sometimes it pays to know people. *grin*

I don't really get the mascots for the teams.  Odd, very odd looking muppet like fellows.

After the game they let off fireworks, which rocked.  They played great music while they were going off...and I love fireworks in general.  It was a pretty impressive show especially considering it is an add on for the game.

On a completely different topic...today is National Fish and Chips Day in Ireland, so if you get a chance to partake in some today in honor of all the chippers in the home country, please do.

Say What You Think…

When a child comes up and says, “you are fat”, or “you have ugly hair”, or “your feet smell” they are not usually trying to be mean, they are simply saying what they think based on what they see. They have no filter. At what age do we lose that? At what age do we start masking what we want to say to save the feelings of another person or to stay within acceptable social norms?

It’s frustrating, really, I feel there should be a way to say what you think as an adult, to get issues out in the open and stop filtering them. Wouldn’t you like to say to your boss, “I’m underpaid, overworked, underappreciated and I have mound of student loans that need to be paid off, I need a raise.” I would, but I don’t, I say it other ways, less direct, like completing my annual review and trying include all the wonderfulness that is me.

We all have a co-workers that we would love to say to them , “Do your damn job!”. We ignore it or may focus on a non-issue to maybe get them geared toward doing their job.

Every now and then we have a friend or family member that we would like say to them, “You are being an ass!”. We don’t, we don’t say anything. Sometimes it stresses us out so much sleep is lost over it.

I used to be a person who said what they were thinking much of the time, regardless. In high school I was called _____ bitch. My last name started with a “b”, so it was an easy fit. I got this because I used to say what I thought. I didn’t have a ton of friends because of this, but didn’t really care. The friends I did have were real friendships and to hell with the other idiots. Now, I find it funny that these idiots what to facebook me. Really?!?!

I wish I could go back to saying what I think, but I’ve surrendered to the social norms and will go along with all the other sheep thinking what I want to say, but never saying it. Maybe one day, I’ll feel free enough to blog about it, but I think that blog would have to be a private one that no one was really allowed to read. *smile* Not much of a blog.

Flying High…

This morning was a bit miserable, so I felt I would make the most of it and stop for a “fancy” coffee. I haven’t had a “fancy” coffee in quite some time. I did the quick Starbucks drive-throw and got a iced white chocolate mocha. TASTY! Well, since it had been so long since I have a “fancy” coffee it was way too sweet. I made a pot of hazelnut coffee in my office and added it to the mocha. This worked wonderfully, more coffee taste and less sweet. However, this means, I had about 3 shots of espresso and another two cups of coffee, not to mention the sugar. So right now, I’m flying high. If my shaky leg were logging miles I would guess about 20 at this point. The worst part is the headache I created for myself, darn it.

Ah, Friday, thank goodness 430pm is almost here.
